Treasurer

ETNA is a welcoming and vibrant Community Centre in the heart of TW1. The ethos of ETNA is to be a place where the local community feel welcome and part of the Centre. We are looking for a treasurer to join the Board of Trustees. Currently there are 9 Trustees all of which live locally. You will be an important member of the Board which supports the ETNA staff team. A member of staff does the bookkeeping and we have an external accountant for all statutory matters as well as payroll.

What can you bring to the Team

Knowledge and Experience

  • Financial experience and an understanding of financial planning
  • Computer literate with a good level of understanding of Microsoft Office – Excel/Word/Outlook
  • Knowledge of Quickbooks or similar accounting packages would be advantageous
  • A clear understanding of the role of a Trustee
  • Financial experience and an understanding of financial planning
  • An understanding of the work of the voluntary and community sector would be helpful, but not essential

  • The commitment necessary to devote sufficient time, preparation and effort required to meet the responsibilities of being a Trustee.
  • Integrity, honesty and flexibility
  • Active listening skills, openness to the views of others and a willingness to work alongside colleagues

Your role:

  • Signing off budgets for the financial year
  • Reviewing year end accounts and writing trustees report for Accountant
  • Liaising with accountant on any top line financial decisions for the charity
  • Presenting financial update at board meetings alongside Centre Director
  • Working alongside Chair on any strategic decisions for the charity

Trustee Role

Time Commitment
Six evening meetings a year with the possibility of additional time for specific tasks and sub-committees plus a few community events throughout the year. Plus meetings with ETNA Management Team.

Purpose
The Board of Trustees is responsible for overall governance and strategic direction of ETNA, developing ETNA aims, objectives and goals in accordance with its governing documents, and legal and regulatory requirements.

Our Trustees work with collectively and effectively with our Centre Director by giving strategic direction to ETNA and determining our objectives. They make decisions required for the management of ETNA, ensuring compliance, good governance and adequate financial resources for our Centre. They also ensure we manage risks carefully, act as a responsible employer, and uphold the principles of equality and diversity. The Board of Trustees currently has nine members who are multi-skilled. Some roles have additional responsibility: Chair, Deputy Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and Safeguarding Lead.
